Project Details

The ultimate aim of this project is to develop a data analytics based sustainable safety management system for eliminating fatalities and reducing lost time injuries to people at work. Three integrated work modules such as (i) creation of safety analytics database including the use of information and communication technologies (ICT), (ii) Development of prediction models for predicting accidents/injuries across employee demographics, such as job-wise (designation-wise), location-wise, function-wise, age-wise, experience-wise, etc., and (iii) Design of prevention and mitigation solutions based on the safety data analytics will be developed. The project aims in establishing as a national hub (i) for storage and analysis safety data, (ii) for creating competent critical mass in the area of safety engineering and management for industries’ need and support, and (iii) to promote much needed research, innovation and education in the area of safety engineering and management. The project also aims to deliver quality database for safety, prediction models and safety solutions to industries.

Project Details

This study involves the quantitative risk assessment (QRA) of storage, transportation and assembly operations of explosives and ammunitions. Specifically, three objectives are being carried out: (i) hazard identification, (ii) quantitative risk assessment and risk prioritization, and (iii) action plans for safety improvement considering risk uncertainty. We use both traditional and advanced industrial engineering, operations research, simulation, and quality, reliability and safety engineering tools and techniques for description, exploration, assessment and decision making for safety improvement.

Project Details

The overall focus of this research is evaluation of existing safety practices through analysis of available accident and incident data. Specifically, four objectives are being carried out: (i) SWOT analysis of existing Safety Management System, (ii) development of an effective measurement system to measure safety capability at the operational, tactical and strategic control levels, (iii) development of a continuous learning system through analyzing accident/incident data and (iv) building competency in safety data analysis and data driven decision making among safety professionals.
